X out of Y as Percentage to Grade?
“X out of Y as Percentage to Grade” means converting a raw score (X) out of a possible maximum score (Y) into a percentage and then assigning a corresponding letter grade based on a predefined grading scale.
Percentage=(X/Y)×100

- X: 42 (correct answers)
- Y: 50 (total questions)
- Percentage: (4250)×100=84%(5042)×100=84%
- Grade: ‘A’ (based on the grading scale)
- Example for an Assignment:
- X: 18 (points earned)
- Y: 20 (maximum points)
- Percentage: (1820)×100=90%(2018)×100=90%
- Grade: ‘A+’ (according to the grading scale)
- Example for a Project:
- X: 75 (overall project score)
- Y: 100 (maximum project score)
- Percentage: (75100)×100=75%(10075)×100=75%
- Grade: ‘C+’ (as per the grading scale)
- Example for an Exam:
- X: 28 (total marks obtained)
- Y: 40 (total marks possible)
- Percentage: (2840)×100=70%(4028)×100=70%
