How Many Countries Are There In the World
Since the independence of South Sudan on 9 July 2011, the total number of countries and regions in the world has grown to 195. This number does not include the complicated country of Taiwan or some other countries with unique situations. Of the 195 nations, 193 have an equal say in the United Nations. The Holy See and the state of Palestine have special status at the United Nations.
